quaranta_front.jpgIf you’re thinking about going green with a Toyota Prius, hold on a second. Underneath this spectacular spacecraft-like exterior by Italdesign Giugiaro beats the frugal heart of a Prius. Well, almost, because the Quaranta concept car, to be rolled out at the Geneva Motor Show next week, has a bigger 268-horsepower 3.3L V6 engine running on good ol’ gas teamed up with that midships-mounted hybrid Synergy Drive built by Toyota.

Flat Folded Shoe

The EIN/TRITT shoe concepts shows how modern technology can take shoe manufacturing to the next paradigm. Flat shoe patterns with reinforced parts get folded and fixed by the consumer. Production and shipping costs are significantly reduced. From an aesthetic point of view, it has a very geometric and architectural form that’ll definitely grab you some attention. I wonder what Nike or Adidas could do with this technology.

a thing of beauty

sammyac.pngIt’s not surprise that Samsung has decided to yet again put a touch of class on a seemingly classless home appliance. First it was laser printers, but now it is something even more ordinary like anti-bacterial air conditioners. The Samsung air conditioner is capable of eliminating 78 percent of fungus and 58 percent of bacteria in a room in a matter of 30 minutes. Samsung uses a Micro Plasma Ion to do the dirty work of eliminating fungus and bacteria with silver lined components and a green tea extract filter.

The air conditioner, which I can’t help to think it looks like one of those cheap inkjet printers, is available in white or black and currently available in Asia with no time table on a stateside release.

RelaxStyle Room

roompalettebanprestorelaxstylejapantrends.jpgYou’ll be murmuring erstwhile hipster phrases such as “oh, wow” when you fire up your RelaxStyle Room Palette Effect lamp, projecting images of undulating waves onto your ceiling for your relaxation and entertainment. Harried stockbrokers might like the feeling of being just as underwater as their portfolios are, looking up from the bottom of the deep blue sea. Hey, look at it this way: There’s nowhere to go but up. For the more optimistic, rotate the lamp sideways and it’ll look like you’ve installed a waterfall on your wall.

If you really like it a lot, you can set its 120-minute timer to automatically extinguish the light show as you head off to sleepytime land. A cool $69 takes this watery LED lamp home, certain to lower your blood pressure and impress all those chicks clamoring to spend an evening or two in that swank bachelor pad of yours. We’re ordering up two right away.

USB parrot speaks out your secret!

USB parrot speaks out your secret!

The USB Owl could be a little boring as it only moves its eyes around and rotates the head. If you ain’t mind the noisiness, the USB parrot would be a better pet for your desk. At least, the parrot speaks some words, which makes your day having more fun.Like a real parrot, the USB parrot will first memorize those vulgar words that accidentally slipped out of your mouth. And it speaks out at the right time - when your boss is around or passes by. Be sure to speak those nice words about your boss, so when he drops by your cubicle, the USB parrot will convey the good words to your boss. It could help if you’ve been looking for a promotion.

Lamp Goes Here

First impressions upon seeing the “Tall & Tiny” sticker design by Alice Rosignoli, is that the secret society of Illuminati have murdered yet another pair of lamps and Interpol are busy investigating their demise. My second impression is; cool! This 2D sticker lamp design flattens traditional 3D designs more than the U.S. dollar and is a fun way to be hip, save space and still confuse the hell out of your parents when they visit and ask “are you ever going to grow up?” After pointing them to your sticker outline of an open front door and they are knocked out on your floor, you can then rifle through their clothes and “borrow” a little more money to buy yourself a sticker outline of a cute dog to impress your online girlfriend in Canada.

iMac has your back…

Many things come to mind when I imagine new features that might be useful on my Mac; a touch screen, integrated 3G connectivity, pop-out remote control, integrated LCD projector, and maybe even a ninja bear defense radar system… I had an incident, let it go. Designer Nuno Teixeira believes every computer should be two faced and with more curves. I dated that girl for a while and it was a hot nightmare, but his “iView” iteration of an Apple’s iMac definitely has a lot more appeal. Taking a cue from the 1950’s CINERAMA wrap-around movie theatre screens, this iMac iMock-up features a giant curved screen(for better orientation to the natural curvature of the human eye) and a second built in LCD screen on the back(useful for students and graphic designer.) While shooting for the stars, Nuno also included two webcams(front and back). The likelihood this will ever be made? 0%, the likelihood I would really like one of these? 100%
