The Concept of Cup PC is inspired by Everyday Conduct

cup_pc_1.jpg A cup (or mug) is a very integral part of our lives. Without that cuppa coffee, no engine starts! So imagine phrases like “Pour your data on the table” or “Pour your data into my cup” being dished out by the Cup PC, which has been modeled on common behaviors of people in everyday situations. “The Cup” is innovative PC design with an instinctive interface of cup. The operation of this new PC conforms to the patterns that people adopt while using cups. Acts like contain, collecting, piling and pouring water into other cups are mimed by the PC for storing, sharing and organizing information. Using a cup is intuitive and requires no manual; hence the metaphor is aptly used in this case.

Go With The Flow

There is a wind blowing from the east and it smells a little like wasabi, ginger and fresh paint. It turns out its just Mazda showing off its latest design direction, the Mazda “Taiki.” Inspired by the shape and flow of wind itself, Mazda declares the  exterior lines are inspired by wind flowing through a Hagoromo, the “flowing robes that enable a celestial maiden to fly.” I never got to that level of Final Fantasy but I guess I get that reference. Their challenge was to create “a design that visually expresses the flow of air” and visually expresses the atmosphere - called taiki in Japanese. Anyway you look at it, Mazda’s concept is forward thinking and a breath of fresh air in a slightly stale auto show season.

C-Jump Programming Board Game Is Slightly Better Than Socks

C-Jump

Okay, I know some of you probably think that this is the coolest thing ever and you wish your parents had given you a board game that teaches basic programming concepts when you were 11 years old. If they had, you’d probably be pulling down six figs by now. C-Jump uses a ski race theme to introduce kids to loops, conditional statements, variables, and syntax used in C, C++, and Java. But come on, when you were 11, what did you really want? That’s right, a Nintendo 64.

Sony Rolly busts a color move

Sony just turned out the Rolly music player in black. A surprise blown by the FCC just last week. At least we can wonder at the colorful end-caps at a cost of ¥1,500 (about $15) per. Of course, if you scoffed at the original Rolly, then the April 19th, Japanese release of the new ¥40,000 (about $400) dancing-speaker bot won’t likely tug at your pawnshopped heartstrings either.

Windows XP-powered Eee PC laptop: $400, April 9th

Sounds like we’ve finally got a price and a date for the XP powered Eee PC: $400, and April 9th. The hardware’s identical to current-gen Eee PCs, though, so if you’re happy with your little white lappy and are itching for XP you might try to pick up a license on eBay. Still, if all goes well for ASUS, they’ll be selling 4x what they did the first time around, innit?

P.S. -If you are, for whatever reason, itching to read more about current hardware running the 7 year old OS, Laptop’s got a hands-on. Nothing that wasn’t already out there though.

Atom processor to cost Intel just $6 to $8?

Ever since Intel compared the criticality of its (still) forthcoming Silverthorne (which now goes by Atom, if you couldn’t guess) processor to the original Pentium last June, we’ve all wondered just how fantasmical our worlds would become when this thing finally dropped. Now, however, Tom’s Hardware has discovered that the release may actually do more for Intel than we geeks. After consulting a source it believes to be quite credible, it found that the CPU — which will likely sell for upwards of $30 at the low-end — will cost Intel just “$6 to $8, including production, packaging and shipping.” Without busting out the abacus, it’s still fairly easy to see how profitable said chips could be if Intel can move these at even a snail’s pace, but of course, we’d take the dollars and cents estimates with a grain of salt until they actually hit the market.

Treepee elevates the tent-dwelling experience

treepee_front.jpgDo you like camping but can’t stand wallowing in the dirt with all those bugs and worms? Then the Treepee is just for you. Hang it from the nearest sturdy tree, stake it down on all four corners, and suddenly you have yourself a floating paradise in the wilderness. For those not prone to seasickness, let it dangle in the breeze for that free-floating treehouse feeling.

Either way, this overpriced $600 tent, available in green, brown, or pink, has got to be a whole lot more comfortable than sleeping on the hard and unforgiving ground. Now all you need to do is outfit the tent with electrical outlets, get yourself a fuel-cell generator and a solar charger, and then plug in a fridge, LCD TV and hook up some air conditioning. Final Four alfresco, anyone?
