Programmable tattoos can change with your mood

Those kooky scientists at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have gone overboard with this programmable tattoo concept. It uses hair-sized nanotubes embedded in the skin to display an image of your choice, which persists even after you turn off the power. Hopefully you can remove that image altogether for job interviews and such.
Those creative Rensselaer dudes [...]

Logitech subsidiary 3Dconnexion managed to impress with its original SpaceNavigator 3D mouse, and it’s now shrunk the 3D environment-navigating tool down to laptop size for those that like to dip into their virtual environs of choice while they’re on the go. Apart from the size, however, the only significant change appears to be a new [...]

If bling isn’t your thing, you can also get a handmade keyboard in flowery pinkish, flowery yellowish, reddish with weird bunny-things on it, [...]

Luminoso rug puts the stars at your feet

I’d say that rugs are some of the last objects around to be updated with modern technology. After all, what upgrades do rugs require? They just need to lie on the ground and be pleasing to the eye. That’s about it.
Well, this Luminoso rug does that, but it does so with the help of tons [...]

High voltage “antivirus” halo protects your laptop, keeps you vigilant

Here at Engadget HQ, we have a certain respect for tesla-based DIY endeavors. That being said, we still can’t fathom who in their right mind would actually fling sparks around their laptop just to feel a little closer to that WoW raid. Nevertheless, the High voltage “antivirus” protection project claims to play nice with Macs [...]

Wooden portable NES lets you game in style

Posted by sickofgadgets.com
Filed under fashion | No Comments

Sure, we’ve already got a wooden SNES, but sometimes we want to get a little rustic on some original SMB, and that’s where Parker Dillmann’s wooden NES comes in handy. Built around the guts of a Yobo NES clone and a 3.5-inch LCD, Dillmann did some major custom woodworking to get this rig going, and [...]

Though we’ve seen OLEDs used for interior lighting purposes before, OSRAM and designer Ingo Maurer have churned out what’s possibly the world’s first dedicated OLED lamp. Aptly named Early Future, the creation is being produced as a limited edition and unveiled at the Light&Building Fair in Frankfurt, Germany this week. Each OLED tile measures in [...]

Ultrathin Netbook showcased at Intel Developer Forum

From what we’ve seen thus far, Intel’s Netbook isn’t exactly the prettiest piece of kit. But apparently, the unit we’ve been shown looks nothing like the Netbooks of the future. At the Intel Developer Forum in Shanghai, the company was showing off an upcoming design that looked awfully thin (and awfully attractive). As it stands, [...]

The Hanged Man Lamp

Nothing can get any more simple than a light bulb hanging off the ceiling, no wonder there are so many variations. However, I haven’t seen a table lamp with the same concept. But if you are a fan of playing “Hanged Man”, this one is for you!

BulbDial Clock updates a truly ancient technology

Posted by sickofgadgets.com

There’s nothing quite like taking a beautifully simple piece of technology and making it incredibly complicated, and few devices are quite as simple as a sundial. The problem is that sundials only work when it’s sunny out, and their single hour pointer gives you only a pretty rough estimate of the time. That may have [...]

Firebox USB Tengu syncing lips with your music

The little USB Tengu that we’ve seen before from SolidAlliance, changes its face with different mood while you’re feeding it with music. Firebox now also carries another USB Tengu, which also reacts aggressively to the music that you play on your computer.
The Firebox USB Tengu will do more or less the same, responding with different [...]

Toshiba’s unbelievably tiny HD1 HDTV camera is world’s smallest

We knew HDTV cameras were getting small, but had no idea they could be shrunk to a size scarcely larger than a sugar cube. That’s about the dimensions of a tiny camera Toshiba will roll out this month at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) convention in Las Vegas. The 2.3-ounce IK-HD1 is just 1.6 [...]

FLX USB drive is simplicity defined

I find the best designs to be the most simple and intuitive. You don’t need a lot of flash to be impressive, just a good idea implemented well. That’s just what this FLX drive is: a tiny USB thumb drive with a unique, creative design.
The FLX is essentially just a little USB nub, but it’s [...]

Jet House looks fast even while sitting still

No, this is not some new supersonic aircraft or UFO. It’s a house designed by Jérôme Olivet, who learned his stuff from the great Philippe Starck. Jet House is designed to look like it’s moving fast even though its smooth molded concrete structure is attached to a metallic building pad, tethering its undulating shape to [...]

Try as it may, it seems the Zune just can’t match up to the iPod. Why not? Well, A.J. Kandy, creative director and prez of King Marketing, posits that Microsoft needs to stop simply following in Apple’s footsteps with its MP3 player. The Xune 360 is his solution.
The Xune 360 plays up the strength [...]

Gateshead Millennium Bridge: a drawbridge like you’ve never seen

Putting a twist on the conventional drawbridge, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge over the River Tyne in England tilts to let ships pass under it instead of parting at the middle. The bridge’s crazy design is the result of a design competition held by Gateshead Council in 1996, and was selected from 150 entries of which [...]

Ultima Tower is two crazy miles high, wants to be green

How tall is too tall? I guess we’ll know once one of these crazy building concepts ends up getting built — if it subsequently falls down, that is.
The Ultima Tower is a conceptualization by designer Eugene Tsui and it’s built around alleviating city congestion in this increasingly congested world. It’s debatably attractive shape is inspired [...]
