DIY Electric Unicycle With Gyro Stabilization
On the surface a DIY Electric Unicycle sounds like a dangerous, dangerous idea. Rodger Cleye’s design, however, looks pretty tame. For one thing, it does not go terribly fast, and for another, it has gyro-stabilization to help keep you on and a safety lanyard to shut it down in case you fall off.
The design is cool, the Ni-Mh batteries are concealed in the forks and it looks like a standard unicycle, except for the fact that it doesn’t have pedals and is understandably a little more beefy, it weighs in at about 50 lbs. While this is unlikely to achieve mass appeal, it is a very cool idea.
I am not sure what the top speed on this one is, but the UNIQUECYCLE has a power system which yields more than 1000W. This will get you a higher top speed than the first generation version of the model. Higher speed is, oddly enough, a safety consideration as, “speed overhead is critical for safety in order to maintain balance during road disturbances at high speed.” [Electric Unicycle via Hacked Gadgets]
