GDDR5 Gaming Ram Coming In A Couple of Years

1_r Samsung’s GDDR5 memory chips whip data four times faster than GDDR3, offering 6 Gbps of bandwidth for the gaming hardware of 2009.

Each chip will contain 512Mb of memory and use 20 percent less power than the current standard.

What will it mean for you? The more things change, the more they stay the same. The best way to measure the power of gaming graphics hardware is by making sarcastic remarks about the silly cinematic effects that each generation allows. Last-gen games blinded us with bloom lighting. Current titles simply love motion blur, rendering the world as it might be seen by a drunk from a 1970’s cop show. What next? My money is on fake ray tracing. Every game will be packed with excuses to have prisms, crystal balls and glass kettles everywhere.
